Cropwell suffer shock defeat away to Elwes arms! (14-9-11)
The second game of the season took Cropwell to Clifton to play newly promoted Elwes Arms. It was a nightmare start for an understrength Cropwell side today as United came out the blocks like Gareth Barry chasing down a german counter attack, Elwes on the other hand were the complete opposite, working hard, closing down and not giving Cropwell an inch to play any football.
Cropwell were there own worst enemy today and for the first 20 mins weren't the team that beat Radcliffe 3 nil the week prior, Elwes capitalised on Cropwells poor start and within 15 mins were 3 nil up from 2 whole team defensive errors, and then a quality free kick to make the lead 3-0, it took all 3 goals for United to start to wake up out of their slumber and with a slight change around started to get a foothold eventually gaining the lions share of possession, however Elwes defended well and stuck to their jobs and were dangerous on the counter attack. Five minutes before half time Nick Gammon gave Cropwell a glimmer of hope of a comeback going into the break 3-1 down.
United shifted formation again in search for another and straight away got the second once again through Nick Gammon, from that point United were well on top in terms of possession and chances but very out of character those chances went begging and that important equaliser too, Elwes didn't create any real second half chances but by then they didn't need too as they did their job in the first 20 mins and stuck to there task the whole game.
Although a very spirited fight-back from Cropwell and in terms of chances and 2nd half performance probably should of taken the lead but the unforgiveable start just left too much to do and Elwes deserved their 3 goals and 3 points.
Cropwell now look to next week's first home game of the season against Punjab at Sheldon Field to push on.
Final Score: ELWES ARMS 3 – 2 CROPWELL UNITED
United Goal Scorer: Nick Gammon 2

Cropwell United kick off with a win (13-9-11)
Cropwell United started the season away to local rivals Radcliffe Olympic.
Captained by Craig Carter on the day as Adam Flint set off on his honeymoon. Meaning Mark Copley had to sacrifice his precious right wing for the good of the team and slot in at right back along side Craig Carter and George Abbott.
Dom Page started at left back and Carl Heap took on the holding midfield role and made up a shape-shifting 3 in midfield with Chris Thorpe and Chris Choleron in the hole and Jack Horton on the right and Jeff Coulson on the left. This left Stef Kendall as the lone striker.
United made a winning start to the season! After a slow start, Cropwell soon massively dominated the game against local rivals Radcliffe Olympic, and took the lead through some typical United passing cutting Radcliffe apart as Chris Cholerton neatly finished off the move sending the keeper the wrong way.
Nick Gammon came off the bench to set up Stef Kendal to make it 2 nil.
Radcliife tried to claw a way back only to be denied twice by stand in Keeper Shayne Coulson.
Daniel Cholerton off the bench to beef up the centre of midfield to ensure the clean sheet. And soon the job was done as Jack Horton got onto the end of a Matt Dexter flick on to lob the on coming keeper to take all 3 points for United
Final Score: Radcliffe Olympic 0 - Cropwell Utd 3

Boomerang safe in Bishop Hands (23-8-11)
The Boomerang was, once again, won by Bishop last Sunday!
The Butler team won the toss and decided to bat but our team bowled very well: it took Butler 21 balls to get off the mark. The Bishop team restricted Butler to 102 off 40 overs. In return, the Bishop team beat this total in less than half the time—just 19 overs.
The Boomerang is still in Bishops Hands!

Cropwell Football News (21-7-11)
Its been the most successful year in the history of Cropwell Football, ending the season as Division 1 runners up to the current FA national Sunday champions Arnold Cross Keys and 8 points above previous closest rivals Wollaton and a massive 21 points in front of 4th places Kinoulton Villa! Cropwell United held top spot until the last day of the season when Arnold's games in hand, came in handy.
Cropwell showed their real character this season and also how the team and each player individually has improved with each season, as they have progressed from the 3rd Division three seasons ago to become one of the top Sunday sides in Nottinghamshire.
With such worthy performances as claiming all 3 points against big rivals and title contenders Wollaton, when in the last minutes in terrible conditions at the Chilwell Olympia George Abbott fires home a header to sink Pirates to their first home defeat in years.
United also had to climb out of trouble a few times coming back from 3 nil down three times, and became somewhat of a habit as united showed their metal and really didn't know when they were beaten this season.
After a successful season it was time for the trophies:
CUFC players player of the year: Adam Flint
Although the main consensus of the year was how hard it was to pick one single player above all others, as this year was a year when United really came together as a team and won every game together and but also lost together but remain united throughout. Which goes to show what the team think of there skipper, every inch of Adam also known as "Bomb" is for the team, producing many noteworthy performances with his no nonsense defending, never to be seen pulling out of a tackle flinty has been the nemesis of many wingers this season.
CUFC player of the year: Craig Carter
This season has seen Craig Carter as part of one of the most solid centre back partnerships in the league.
Craig has become a leader on the pitch and not just in his calm style of play and blistering pace. but one who is well respected and is like another captain to his team, there to motivate and communicate with his team mates around him, Craig sees the game very well and if something needs changing on the pitch carters opinion is vital to his team.
Golden Boot: Stefan Kendal
Leads way in terms of goals with 17 goals in total in 22 games. getting three braces, one hat-trick and one four—taking his tally to 66 goals in three seasons. A decent return in any league.
Goal of the season: Adam Flint
Gets his hands on his second trophy taking this illustrious award thanks to an audacious effort named the *Tsawalwala strike (*a goal with an uncanny resemblance to the opening goal of the world cup) against fox and hound, as Adam who had just been moved to left wing in search of goals stole onto a through ball just inside the left corner of the 18 yard box, as the ball was on the bounce smashes the ball left footed tight into the far corner of the goal past the outstretched arms of the keeper.

To kick start our new season we are playing what will become a biannual event; a contest between the two villages. The first game, to be played for the 'David Shaw Trophy' will take place on Sunday 1st May, with the return leg being played for the Derek Randall Boomerang trophy later in the season.
Please come along and support both the teams. Licensed bar, teas and snacks available.

Cropwell Cricket Club (12-4-11)
Cropwell Cricket Club is now established on the Sheldon Field with an active committee and increasing membership drawn from the parishes of Cropwell Butler and Tythby and Cropwell Bishop.
Twelve fixtures have already been arranged with more to follow, details of which will be circulated in newsletters and elsewhere in Cropwell Butler and Cropwell Bishop ahead of the first home match on Sunday 1st May.
As well as active fundraising, the Club needs sponsorship if it is to be sustainable in the years to come. If you are able to provide any such support, no matter how modest, please contact any of the members, committee or me, Paul Dulwich on 9335739 (paul.dulwich@virgin.net) or Neil King on 9892376 (neilking1@talktalk.net) or at the forthcoming fixtures. There remains plenty of space for 'Bloggs Engineering' on our treasured CCC caps!
Likewise, if you are interested in joining as a player, junior or less-junior, or non-playing participant (we always need umpires, scorers and all round support) please use the contact details above and I will be pleased to send out a membership form (adult membership £15-00, junior membership £10-00 and non-players £10-00).
There are intended to be social events as well as match day activities for our respective villages to enjoy.
Kwik cricket will also continue for the younger cricket enthusiasts, this year headed once again by Jim Besson, Nikki Oldfield (?) and John Cowburn on a 'pay on the day' basis. Junior membership will not be required.
Kit donations through the Sheldon Field remain most welcome. We have already benefited from an extremely kind donation of Slazenger equipment, but we probably can't have too much.
I look forward to seeing you on the Sheldon Field this spring and summer whether it be as a player, member, supporter or visitor.

Cricket News (11-4-11)
It is the cricket season and Nottinghamshire seems to be a hot spot for the sport. Ian Keetley is the Captain of Colston Bassett Cricket Club and sent me an email last week. In it he said …
Over at Colston Bassett we are currently developing a friendly Sunday cricket team to play alongside our regular league team. With this expansion in mind we are looking to recruit new players to the club; which mean casting the net wider than a few posters in Colston Bassett.
Knowing how difficult it is to find players I am very mindful of not poaching anyone who is playing local to us and whilst researching the local cricketing landscape I came across the Cropwell Bishop Plan website.
It was great to see what looked like a couple of very sociable games against Cropwell Butler.
I don't know what stage the formation of a Cropwell team has reached, but I wondered if there might be an opportunity to help each other out e.g. recruiting players from Cropwell to play jointly with our friendly team or even better players joining the league team.
This season we have 18 league games , 11 friendlies and several midweek games. Our home ground is on Washpit Lane, about 2 mins outside of Cropwell Bishop.
If anybody in Cropwell Bishop would like to pursue this further, please drop me a line.
If you are focused on developing a purely Cropwell Bishop team, I wish you all the best and maybe get in touch if you would like a fixture at some point.
Kind Regards
Ian Keetley
